ELLA HILL HUTCH AWARDS CELEBRATION 2015

In the spirit of Ella Hill Hutch, annually Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), a statewide non-profit advocacy and membership organization, recognizes local civic and public policy leaders for their courage pushing the front line and challenging the status quo in efforts to improve our society.

Ella Hill Hutch (1924 – 1981) was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977 (along with Harvey Milk and Dan White), and reelected in 1980. She was the second African American elected to the Board (Terry Francois was the first, elected in 1967, 1971 and 1975), and the first African-American woman.
